Eye Surgery Guidance And Support From Our Playa del Rey & Playa Vista Optometrist

Many eye diseases, eye function disorders and vision problems can be corrected through conservative care measures, from medicated eye drops to eyeglasses or contacts -- and in those situations our Playa del Ray & Playa Vista optometrist, Dr. Jenn Tabiza, is happy to provide that care directly. There are some cases, however, where eye surgery may be necessary or preferable to other methods. Even then, you can get the guidance, counseling and pre-operative/post-operative supportive care you need right here at Westchester Eye Care Center.

Which Scenarios Call For Surgery?

Sometimes an eye disease or disorder doesn't respond to medication or has advanced to the point that a stronger approach is needed. For instance, if you have glaucoma and your intraocular pressure isn't controlled by eye drops or oral drugs, you might need a glaucoma procedure called a trabeculoplasty. This laser surgery changes the structure of the tiny drainage ducts that regulate fluid pressure in the eye. Abnormal blood vessel growth or uncontrolled bleeding in the eye from diabetic retinopathy or macular degeneration might also call for laser surgery to stop the blood leakage. Rarer events such as eye cancers are other examples where surgical intervention is required.

Since some of these diseases cause progressive, permanent vision loss, you need to make sure you're scheduling regular eye exams with our optometrist in South Bay and Playa del Rey. We can detect them early, administer conservative treatments that may be all you need, and refer you for eye surgery if conservative care isn't sufficient.

Understanding LASIK With Your Playa del Rey & Playa Vista Optometrist

Other types of eye surgery are less urgent but just as desirable if you want to optimize your vision permanently. Refractive surgery such as LASIK is a prime example. LASIK is a laser procedure for individuals who want to correct their nearsightedness, farsightedness or astigmatism without glasses or contacts. The laser removes small amounts of corneal tissue to give the cornea new shape, compensating for the abnormal eye shapes that cause nearsightedness, farsightedness and astigmatism.

Cataracts can also be removed surgically, although our optometrist in Playa Vista and Play del Rey may be able to support your vision through corrective lenses for years until surgery becomes necessary. This procedure makes a small incision in the eye so an ultrasound instrument can break up the cataracts. The old lens is taken out and a clear new artificial one installed in its place.

Testimonial

"Dr. T is very thorough with her eye exams. She asks all the right questions with what you need. She takes her time with her patients making sure they get what they need and get to know them. She's very professional but also approachable. You can ask her any eye related issues and she'll have answers for you. If she doesn't have an answer, which doesn't happen often, she'll get the right information for you. She also doesn't try to up sell you with what you don't need. I would recommend her to all my family and friends. In fact I've already done so and they're all very satisfied with the service."
